About

Built in Montreal. Owned in Montreal.

Canner is built and operated by Colin Shand from Montreal. The company is 100% Canadian-owned, has no US affiliate of any kind, and operates entirely on Quebec-resident infrastructure. That Canadian ownership is the foundation of every compliance claim on this site.

Founder

I've spent fifteen years building data infrastructure for Canadian companies — including engagements at McGill University and Structube — and I run iaminter.net, a Quebec-based consulting practice for custom BI and analytics work. Canner is the platform I wanted to use myself when shipping Quebec-bound applications: git push, live URL, data physically in the province, no US middleman.

Canner is 100% Canadian-owned, with no US affiliate of any kind. If a US court asks for your data, Canner is not a US person under the CLOUD Act and is not subject to a §2713 order. That's a contractual and operational stance, not a marketing line — buyers in regulated sectors (healthcare, fintech, government) can request a written ownership and sovereignty attestation before signing.

What I work on

  • Custom BI dashboards and data warehouses through iaminter.net (since 2018)
  • SR&ED-eligible R&D for Canadian SMEs
  • Quebec-resident SaaS infrastructure — Canner is the productised form of that

How Canner operates

Quebec data residency by architecture

Compute, storage, databases, build artefacts all on disks in Montreal. Cloudflare handles DNS and TLS issuance only — no traffic proxying, no edge caching.

Quebec ownership, Quebec law

Canner is 100% Canadian-owned and operates from Quebec. Personnel are in Quebec. There is no US legal hook — buyers can request the ownership attestation in writing.

Hydro-Québec power

Infrastructure runs at Web Hosting Canada in Montreal, on Quebec's hydroelectric grid (over 99% renewable). No greenwashing claims beyond what the grid actually delivers.

Boring infrastructure

Postgres, systemd, Caddy, PM2, Linux. Nothing exotic, nothing that can't be operated by hand if needed. Stack choices favour longevity over hype.
