Storage

File storage for your app, in Montréal.

Every Canner project gets a private, S3-compatible bucket for the files your app needs but doesn’t ship in its build: user uploads, generated exports, data dumps. It sits on the same servers as your app, in Montréal, with deleted files kept for 30 days, scheduled file backups and copies to your own buckets. It is for apps running on Canner; there is no public endpoint for outside tools.

Facts checked

What you get

  • A private bucket per project. Nothing is served on a public URL: a browser gets a file through a route in your app, which checks the user first.
  • Real S3 credentials for your app’s server code, scoped to that project only by the storage server’s own access policy.
  • A Files tab in the dashboard to upload, download and delete.
  • Deleted and overwritten files kept for 30 days by default (1 to 365, per project), with restore and older versions.
  • File backups on a schedule, verified by reading files back against their sha256, and copies to an S3-compatible bucket you own.
  • Restores and purges recorded in the audit log.

What it costs

Storage is one pool per organization covering applications, builds, databases, Data Workshop and object storage: 5 GB on Starter and 25 GB on Live. On a paid plan, more comes in 50 GB blocks at $5 a month. Kept file versions count toward it and show as their own segment on the meter.

What it is not

  • Not a standalone storage service. The endpoint is reachable only from apps running on Canner, not from your laptop, your CI or another cloud.
  • Not a CDN. Static assets that ship with your app belong in the deploy.
  • One region, Montréal. A backup on the same server protects against deletion, not against losing the server; add an off-site copy for that.

If you need a standalone bucket in Canada

For storage your other tools reach directly, these S3-compatible services have a Canadian location. Prices are as listed, in the currency each publishes.

Questions

Can I connect to the bucket from outside Canner?

No. The credentials work from your deployed app’s server code only. For a bucket other tools reach, use one of the standalone services above, and point Canner’s off-site copies at it if you like.

Is it S3-compatible?

Yes. Use the AWS SDK with the endpoint, region and keys from the Files tab, and forcePathStyle: true.

Where are the files stored?

On Canner’s servers in Montréal, Quebec, in the same place as your app and database.

Store your app’s files in Quebec.

Every project gets a bucket, on the free plan too.
