Canner vs. Supabase
Supabase is a database platform. Canner is a Canadian platform that also runs your app.
Both give you real Postgres with backups, extensions and replication. The difference is scope: with Supabase the database is one product and your app runs somewhere else. With Canner the app, the database, cron and storage are one Canadian-owned platform, hosted only in Montreal.
- Supabase lists a free plan and a Pro plan at $25/month. Canner includes managed Postgres on every plan, starting at CA$0, with the database, backups and app sharing one pooled storage limit.
- Point-in-time recovery is a paid add-on on both: Supabase lists roughly $100/month for a 7-day window; Canner’s Dedicated instance is CA$9/month per project and covers a 1 to 35 day window.
- Canner has no high availability, no automatic failover and one region. Supabase has a Canadian region on AWS; Canner is Canadian-owned and hosted only in Montreal.

When Canner is the right call
If your app and your database can live together, Canner is one bill in CAD, one Canadian owner, and one place in Montreal. Backups, off-site copies to your own buckets, point-in-time recovery and following an external server are all there without stitching services together. To be plain about limits: Canner has no high availability or automatic failover, one region, and point-in-time recovery restores into a new database.
When Supabase still makes sense
Supabase is a database-first product with a Canadian region, a free plan, and a larger community than a young platform like Canner. If your app already uses Supabase’s services beyond plain Postgres, moving means replacing them, and Canner offers a database rather than those services. If you host your app elsewhere and only want the database, Supabase fits that shape and Canner’s Postgres is not sold on its own.
