Render has no Canadian region. Here are the alternatives that do.

No. Render runs in five regions: Oregon, Ohio, Virginia, Frankfurt and Singapore, none of them in Canada. Fly.io and DigitalOcean offer Toronto, and Heroku offers Montréal only in Private Spaces. Two Canadian-owned platforms exist: Canner in Montréal and MapleDeploy in Toronto. Check where the database and Redis would live, not only the app.

Facts checked

Render’s regions today

Render’s regions page lists Oregon, Ohio and Virginia in the US, Frankfurt in Germany, and Singapore. It says Render will “continue to add regions over time” and points to its feedback board for requests. There is no Canadian region and no announced date for one.

Picking Virginia or Ohio puts you close to Canadian users in latency terms, which is fine if you only care about speed. It does not help with a contract or a policy that says “hosted in Canada”, and it does not help with Quebec’s Law 25, where sending personal information outside Quebec needs a privacy assessment first (section 17).

Where each piece would live

A Render app is rarely one service. It is usually a web service, a Postgres database and often a Key Value instance for a queue or cache. A Canadian alternative only helps if all three can sit in Canada.

What about Vercel and Netlify?

Both now run functions in Montréal: Vercel’s yul1 region has been generally available since January 2026, and Netlify offers a yul functions region on Pro and Enterprise (docs). Both default to US regions, so you have to choose Montréal. They are built around functions, not a long-running server, so a Render web service holding WebSocket connections or running a queue does not move across as is.

What each Render service becomes on Canner

If Canner is on your list, this is how Render’s service types translate. Two of them do not translate, and that is the honest reason some Render apps should go to Fly.io or DigitalOcean instead.

On RenderOn Canner
Web service †A project with a <slug>.canner.app address; custom domains on Live
Static site †A project; a folder with an index.html is served without a build step
Background worker †Not supported as a second process. Run the queue inside the web process (GoodJob, Solid Queue, pg-boss)
Cron job †A scheduled job: a cron expression that sends a POST to a URL in your app
Render Postgres †Canner Postgres 17 or 18 with DATABASE_URL injected; point-in-time recovery on the $9/mo dedicated instance
Key Value †Not offered. Use a Postgres-backed queue or cache, or a Redis you host elsewhere
Docker (Dockerfile or registry image) †Not supported. Canner builds from your manifest: package.json, requirements.txt, Gemfile, go.mod, pom.xml and others
Preview environmentsA preview deploy per pull request at <branch>--<project>.canner.app

Moving a Render database

Render gives every database an external URL on its Info page. External access is open to any IP by default and requires TLS, so sslmode=require belongs on the connection string. If you have locked it down with an IP allow list, add the address you are copying from first.

On Canner, canner db migrate-in streams the database straight from that URL into your project’s database, with no dump file on your laptop. The migration docs cover the no-downtime route and what to check on the source. What Canner Postgres includes on each plan is on its own page.

canner db migrate-in --from "postgresql://user:pass@dpg-xxxx.oregon-postgres.render.com/appdb?sslmode=require"

Which alternative to pick

  • Stay on Render if Canada is a nice-to-have and you depend on background workers, Key Value or Docker images. Nothing below matches all three and is Canadian-owned.
  • DigitalOcean App Platform if you need app, Postgres and Valkey all in Toronto with the fewest changes, and a US owner is acceptable.
  • Fly.io if you need Toronto and are comfortable with Docker images, Machines and fly.toml.
  • MapleDeploy if you want a Canadian owner and still need Redis or a Dockerfile, and one server holding everything is fine.
  • Canner if you want a Canadian owner, hosting in Quebec and a managed Postgres, and your app runs as one process without Redis.

Questions

Does Render have a Canadian region?

No. As of October 2026, Render’s regions are Oregon, Ohio, Virginia, Frankfurt and Singapore. Render says it will add regions over time but has not announced a Canadian one.

What is the closest Render region to Canada?

Ohio or Virginia for eastern Canada, Oregon for the west. They are close in latency, but your data is still in the US.

Which Render alternatives can keep app, database and Redis in Canada?

DigitalOcean (app, Postgres and Valkey in Toronto), Fly.io (app and Postgres in Toronto, Upstash Redis in Fly’s regions) and MapleDeploy (all on one Toronto server). Canner keeps app and Postgres in Montréal but has no Redis.

Can I deploy a Dockerfile on Canner?

No. Canner detects your runtime from the project’s manifest and builds it. If your app only works as a Docker image, Fly.io, DigitalOcean or MapleDeploy are better fits.

Try your Render app in Montréal.

Starter is free and comes with a Postgres database. Pull your Render database across with one command.
